I’ve written quite a bit about the new features coming in Office 2010 but a certain technology I didn’t talk about is – Click-To-Run, it is a new application distribution mechanism being tested by Microsoft with Office 2010. With CtoR, all you need to do is download a small setup file and run it. Once you do that it will start downloading the setup files in the background and will install the application too. From the Connect page here is how Microsoft defines Click-to-Run:
The program provides a first look at the future of Internet application deployment. It delivers the products rapidly to the computer via streaming over the Internet. The following Office 2010 desktop applications are included: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote
Currently build no. build 4536.1000. You can try out Office 2010 by going on the Connect page. I did try the Click-to-Run program during the Technical Preview phase but didn’t quite work out for me. I’ll be giving this a shot as well. Will keep you updated. :)
