What Microsoft Support Engineers Do And How They’re Kept Motivated

June 1, 2010

Microsoft has a Global Technical Support Center in India (abbreviated to IGTSC). The guys here are the ones who help customers with their problems. Part of their job is to create help content like KB articles, tutorials and contributing on forums.

Like any organization, to keep their employees entertained and motivated, Microsoft has some internal competitions of sorts. In a blog post, an engineer from Microsoft India, Bangalore GTSC has shared some of these competitions and the prizes.

There’s a Developer Sporty League for the following sports:

  • Pool
  • Foosball
  • Lightning Chess
  • Table Tennis
  • Arm Wrestling
  • Rope Pulling

Here’s the winner’s certificate and the event flyer:

The second one is a bit more interesting for it tells us as to what is a support engineer’s task:

So they blog, file bugs, post on forums and write FAQs? And get paid for it?! I’ve been doing that for the past 3 years!

There are a couple more competition artworks on the blog post.
