Windows 8 Might Achieve The Elusive Instant-ON

June 29, 2010

Sometime back, the great Gruber pointed out that unlike the iPad, Windows based tablets can’t do Instant-On, to which I quipped that the iOS is a phone OS while Windows is a desktop OS, to be fair, OS X doesn’t do instant-ON either.

In the leaked documents, Microsoft mentions that one of their targets for Windows 8 is to get to Instant-ON. This is particularly for tablet computers or Lap PCs. To be clear, Instant-ON will be the device resuming from 0W instantly and not a cold boot. Microsoft has plans on how they will achieve this and the best part is, they’ll enable partners to monitor and measure PC performance using telemetry tools.
