At the D6 Conference Steve Ballmer & Bill Gates showed a sneak preview of what to expect in the next version of Windows. One thing that caught my eye in the screen shots on Engadget’s Live Blogcast is the good ol’ Paint. It seems that Paint has finally got some new options, have a look at the screen shot below:

If you see the magnified part, the sidebar has a longer list with more colored boxes, new shapes, also what looks to me like the lasso tool & a few other things too blurry to recognize for me.
Watch this space for more.
EDIT: Here is another high resolution image I found on the net:

The new features seem to include:
- Scale
- Magnification Slider (Right Bottom)
- New shapes

Very much reqd!! I love Paint for small time editing, or for screenshots.
I wonder what the world would be like without MS Paint. That app is what gets a kid to use a computer.
Although it is a pity that you guys have to stoop to using Paint for taking screenshots on Windows.
FYI, even though your warning mentions that one must avoid Safari, your site looks great on my browser. :)
hehehe, yeah we guys still use Paint for taking screen shots, we don’t have those slick looking applications for Windows.
Also, Safari on OS X & Windows on my machine has been giving me alignment problem for the navigation bar.
I use IrfanView for screenshots/light editing/retouching.
i am also waiting for window 7. and u have written this post in a very good fashion
Thank you for the appreciation :)
When will it get layers? I dont want it to be a PS, but to be half decent it should have layers like Paint.net
Introduction of Ribbion [Refer Office 2007 Menu style] which going to replace traditional Menu bar is I found another big change.
Still to get those Multitouch screens is bit costly deal..Dell Latitude XT still bit costly ;-)
Ribbon’s announcement was made much later and it’s great ‘coz it allows implementing the new features in a better way.
Touch screens are costly today, so were 2 GB RAM sticks when Vista came out. :P
I have a Samsung Q1b,Win7
I prefer drawing in paint, rather than paint.net because paint gives a more fluid line, but what I like about paint.net are two things, the color wheel, and the layers, Is there a free online app. that will give layers to paint?
