Microsoft’s Upcoming Video Chat Service Spotted In Windows 8?

June 2, 2011

Maybe I’m reading too much into the image but the Windows 8 lock screen has an icon that looks like a PC video chat camera and shows a notification 7, which I think means, 7 missed video calls. There’s another icon for email and messaging which leads me to believe that the icon means one of three things:

  • Windows Live Messenger will show you a separate notification if you miss a call
  • Skype’s already being integrated into Windows 8
  • Something different, like Lync integration

Whatever the case, the icon sure makes me curious.

Update: A dll file found in Windows 8 confirms an integrated video communication feature.
